I injured my hand last weekend, making it difficult to type, so I decided to give Microsoft's speech recognition another try today.

In short, I can tell you that the morons are still sailing the ship. The Microsoft system has improved so little over the last two years, it is pitiful (and, I would say downright shameful for the product of a multibillion dollar software company. It is obvious that Bill has never tried it or "heads would have rolled.")

Writing this article has easily taken me ten times longer using Microsoft's speech recognition than typing it on the keyboard (and that's no exaggeration)... and I should comment that I'm fairly well trained in these systems, having used them off and on for nearly three decades. (So, please don't contact me to tell me about all the proper setup, levels, noise, etc. I know the rules upsidedown and backwards.)

Let me give you a little example of how bad the Microsoft system is: In the prior paragraph I used the word "so," and the system typed "tsao". When I said "off and on", it typed "of van Owen". Let me ask you, when was the last time I used "tsao" or "of van Owen" in my speech? Come on, get real! If I had wanted those words I would've typed them. They should not even be considered in the word search.

However, all that aside, there is one thing that Microsoft speech recognition is really good for: having a good laugh. It is great for entertaining the kids or friends at parties. The sentences that it produces are truly hilarious. It is very entertaining - better than Seinfeld reruns.

Hey, you posted this in 2005. I'm talking about Vista, 2 years later. I don't see that anything has changed.

Microsoft speech recognition is a joke. Only use it if you are paid by the hour, because it takes so long.

Now the following is an unedited version of what microsoft speech recognition input when I used that instead of typing:

.. Only use it and if you are paid by the hour, because it takes so long. Tight is the show. Enter into
