The REBOL mailing list has gone down. This outage only affects the mailing list. Feedback, AltME worlds, and other message boards are still active.

The cause of the crash is still unknown, but early diagnosis of the system logs indicate that the Linux server auto-updated various system modules and something went wrong in the process. (This is the main reason why we like to disable auto-update on most of our servers.) It is possible the HD failed.

For those of you Linux admins, an unknown event switched the main file system to read only mode (resulting in a massive backup of processes). The final system log messages were posted as part of the mail process and read:

kernel: Uhhuh. NMI received for unknown reason 25 on CPU 0.
kernel: Dazed and confused, but trying to continue
kernel: Do you have a strange power saving mode enabled?

NMI is the non-maskable interrupt. A serious attention getter.

The system will not reboot and must be restarted from the site (which may be under several feet of snow right now, I don't yet know).

We hope to hear more from our friendly rebol.net hosting ISP soon, and we will let you know what we find out. I am sorry for the inconvenience.
